Our dancing year at LOD is comprised of both examinations & performance opportunities. As well as offering examinations, we also encourage and promote performing, with all students participating in the annual end of year show, which is always a highlight for all! As well as this, we often have students performing at community events too, including Feet With Heat, International Dance Day, and most recently the 20th anniversary celebration of DANZ Aoteoroa.
Students in all disciplines learn their chosen genre by following the syllabi taught here at LOD. For ballet, this is RAD, Jazz & Tap follow AJDA. At each level exams are undertaken, and these are held at different points throughout the 2nd half of the year, depending on the dance style. We feel examinations offer an excellent means to establish the goals and commitment necessary to any dance training, and also provide a fantastic reward and sense of achievement of their new found skills once completed. The exams do involve a commitment from all students, including attendance in class throughout term, additional weekend practices in the coming weeks before the day, and a holiday program in the period before (Jazz Term 2-3 break, Ballet Grades Term 3-4 break).
L.O.D. Annual Production
The focus of the final term at L.O.D is always our end of year show – a true highlight of the dancing year for all at the Studio! This is a fantastic weekend, where the students get the opportunity to do multiple shows on stage, & gives them not only a true understanding of the nature of performing, but offers a real positive and exciting experience for them, and lets them finish off their dancing year with a bang! The weekend itself is the first week in December & marks the culmination of our school year at L.O.D. Again this too requires a commitment from all participants, of the weekend itself, as well as 2 Sunday rehearsals prior to the weekend, where full Studio rehearsals take place. We feel these two elements combined really give the students a sense of all the facets of dancing, and offer a positive environment in which the students can develop their “Love of Dance.”
Our main studio is centrally located in Newtown, close to many high schools and on several major bus routes. The premises have been purpose built, and consist of 2 large studios, boys and girls dressing rooms & a reception area with a viewing window onto Studio 1 so you can sit & watch or wait for your child’s class.
As well as our main Newtown studios we also have junior level classes in Hataitai at the bowling club. Check out our classes and timetables for more info!
